  • Casa Amara
  • Santa Barbara, CA

Job Description

Company Description Casa Amara envisions a world where individuals and families transform through grace-guided healing, moving beyond trauma to reclaim their lives within supportive relationships. We will strive to set a new standard in co-occurring disorder treatment—one that honors dignity, embraces the latest advances in wellness and longevity, and provides seamless continuity of care wherever our individuals' journeys take them.

Casa Amara will empower individuals to reclaim control of their lives through innovative, individualized treatment for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. We will create an environment of acceptance where healing flourishes through personalized therapeutic interventions and, whenever clinically indicated, meaningful family engagement. By integrating families as partners in recovery and planning for continuity of care from day one, we will foster lasting transformation that extends beyond the individual to strengthen entire support systems—whether our individuals are local, from another state, or abroad.

Role Description The Addiction Medicine Physician or Nurse Practitioner at Casa Amara will provide direct, on-site medical care to individuals with substance use disorders in Montecito, CA. This contract role includes conducting comprehensive assessments, diagnosing substance use and co-occurring conditions, and developing individualized treatment plans. Day-to-day responsibilities involve prescribing and managing medications, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT), monitoring withdrawal and detoxification, and ensuring safe, effective symptom management. The physician will collaborate closely with therapists, nurses, and case managers, participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, and provide guidance on clinical protocols and standards of care. Additional tasks include documenting encounters in the medical record, educating patients and families about treatment options and harm reduction, and supporting aftercare and relapse-prevention planning.

Qualifications

  • Clinical expertise in addiction medicine, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of substance use disorders.
  • Ability to provide medication-assisted treatment (e.g., buprenorphine, naltrexone) and manage detoxification and withdrawal safely.
  • Strong collaboration skills for working within an interdisciplinary team, including behavioral health and nursing professionals.
  • Excellent communication skills for educating patients, families, and staff in a clear, empathetic, and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice, harm reduction principles, and trauma-informed, patient-centered care.
  • Current medical license in the state of California and board certification or eligibility in Addiction Medicine, Psychiatry, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine.
  • DEA registration and any required waivers or certifications to prescribe controlled substances and MAT medications.
  • Experience in residential, outpatient, or partial-hospital addiction treatment settings is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, timely, digital clinical documentation and comply with all regulatory, ethical, and safety standards.
