Welcome to Diversity Essential’s Lived Experiences section. Presentations that centre the lived experiences and stories of diverse individuals foster compassion, bridge commonalities, support personal and professional growth and enriches our cultures.

Our Stories, Our Lives

“Nothing about us, without us.” is a mantra that has been used since the 1980s by disability rights groups and has been attributed to Southern African Disability Rights groups. As individuals are the experts of their lives it is therefore fundamental that policy development consider and include the voices and full participation by those whom they directly affect.

Panelists have shared their experiences and policy recommendations who are:

  • Trans, Two-Spirit, non-binary and fluid gender
  • People of colour or racialized
  • Indigenous
  • Newcomers
  • Lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, or asexual
  • Persons with a disability or living with a chronic illness
  • Faith-based and intersectional

Diversity Essentials is committed to offering pre and post mental health resources to those who participate in lived experience panels. As a well networked organization, we can put you in touch with a diversity of speakers who can fulfill your request.
